By deciding against a request to secure funding for all 36 jets and move ahead with a reduced buy, the Swiss Federal Council accepted that “negative consequences” are to come.

Italy is sponsoring integration of the ramjet powered weapon on the F-35A, while the UK is leading integration on the F-35B model.
The "objective" of the future company is to "really increase our presence in the Middle East," Patrice Hajjar, MBDA’s vice president for the Middle East, told reporters.
"Successful tests conducted on the frigate SACHSEN proved the demonstrator’s tracking capability, effectiveness and precision under real operational conditions for the first time in Europe," the announcement says.
The pursuit of a new, long-range strike capability had been revealed by London and Berlin, but today marks the first time the two capitals have committed to a timeline.
In a first, France and the UK, Europe's only nuclear powers, also signed a declaration today stating that “the respective deterrents of both countries are independent but can be co-ordinated and that there is no extreme threat to Europe that would not prompt a response by both nations."
The kamikaze drone, integrated with a 40kg warhead, jet engine and capable of flying at a range of 500km, has been under development since December 2024.
Eric Béranger said uncertainty in historical alliances is showing that MBDA's joint European model is "proving relevant."
Advanced Navigation said it believes the new sensor system will enable drones "to navigate unlimited distances over land without relying on GPS, and is passive and resistant to interference."
